What will Friends give to the Women’s & Children’s Hospital this year?

Ameda Platinum Breast Pump

For many families with babies in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) or Special Care Nursery, the dream of direct breastfeeding is delayed by critical health challenges.

A hospital-grade Platinum Model breast pump is a vital medical tool that allows mothers to efficiently remove milk and maintain supply when their baby cannot, bridging the gap until direct financial burden for many families.

However, the cost of purchasing or hiring these high-efficiency, multi-user pumps for home use is a significant financial burden for many families.

Friends support allows the hospital to provide a “lifeline” to these parents, ensuring they can continue to provide their own milk for their babies, ultimately improving health outcomes for newborns and supporting maternal well-being.

Vital Signs Monitor

This equipment is a clinical necessity for identifying respiratory compromise before it becomes critical. It provides real-time, breath-by-breath data, detecting signs of respiratory depression or airway obstruction a median of 35 seconds.

For children overcoming needle phobia, maintaining a precise level of sedation is essential for both physical safety and psychological comfort.

By adding this technology to the service, the facility reduces the risk of hypoxia and oxygen desaturation by up to 50%.

Rebound Tonometer

Streamlines traditional diagnostic methods for conditions like glaucoma by using a lightweight, disposable probe that makes momentary contact with the cornea. This “rebound” technology requires no eye drops or air puffs, significantly reducing patient anxiety and the clinical time spent in contact with the eye. This equipment provides a faster, non-invasive alternative that improves clinical workflow and reduces the need for “Examinations Under Anaesthesia”.

$8,500 × 1 targeted

Ophthalmic Ultrasound with Pachymetry

This equipment is essential for performing diagnostic imaging on patients who cannot be intraoperatively transported to a radiology department bringing “gold standard” diagnostic tools directly to the operating theatre. This is particularly important for infants and young children who may require examination under anaesthesia or are medically unstable.

With this radiation-free device, the hospital can ensure rapid, precise care for complex paediatric eye conditions providing clinical teams with the tools needed to protect and restore the sight of our youngest patients.

Sara Combilizer Mobile Position Aid

Prolonged immobility can lead to rapid physical decline, manually transferring patients from a bed to a chair or standing position is a high-stakes task that requires multiple staff members and can cause physical strain on caregivers.

The Sara Combilizer combines the functions of a stretcher, reclining chair, and tilt table into a single mobile unit. It allows our therapists to safely transition a child from lying to sitting or full 75-degree standing without multiple manual transfers.

This equipment provides the WCH team with the exact tool needed to safely accelerate the patients’ recovery helping them to reach critical developmental milestones sooner.

Full Column & Pharyngeal Reflux Detection

Providing the WCHN medical teams with the gold standard in diagnostic tools that identifies every type of reflux event to ensure patients receive the correct, life-changing treatment.

This equipment directly improves the patient experience during a difficult diagnostic journey. Designed for comfort and mobility, allowing patients - including children - to undergo critical testing in the comfort of their own homes rather than a hospital bed. By funding this equipment, Friends are providing the clarity, comfort, and relief that thousands of patients need to reclaim their health and quality of life.
