The Friends have set a goal to raise sufficient funds to purchase a Cough Assist machine that can be loaned to children and families to trial when their respiratory function has declined to the point of requiring respiratory support.
The ability to support a child at home with a ventilator means that they can be discharged from hospital earlier, with all of the benefits that come from them being back in their familiar surroundings.
The Ruciacks is just one of the many families, who have been helped by the specialist team within the Women’s and Children’s Hospital Maternal-Fetal Medicine Service.
Minor invasive procedures such as blood draws, cannula insertion and catheter insertion can be extremely stressful for children, their family members/carers and Women’s and Children’s Hospital staff.
