Queen Victoria Auxiliary, A proud history. A lasting legacy

The Queen Victoria Auxiliary has been supporting women, babies and families for more than 45 years. 

In 1980, a group of women, including former trainees of the Queen Victoria Hospital in Rose Park, came together under the leadership of former midwife Margaret Hickinbotham to establish a fundraising committee for the hospital. 

What began as the Unley Park Queen Victoria Auxiliary quickly became a much-loved part of the community, raising funds through Melbourne Cup luncheons, plays, film nights, bridge days and morning teas at venues including Carrick Hill, Ayers House and the Adelaide Botanic Gardens.

When the Queen Victoria Hospital and the Adelaide Children’s Hospital amalgamated in 1995, the Queen Victoria Auxiliary became part of the Friends of the Women’s and Children’s Hospital. 

Today, the QVA continues that proud tradition, with funds raised particularly supporting additional equipment for the Women’s and Babies’ Division. 

While the activities have evolved, the spirit remains the same — bringing people together, enjoying friendship and raising vital funds for the hospital. 

Film nights, bridge days and the much-loved annual fashion parade continue to bring the community together, while new members are always welcome to join this remarkable legacy of giving.
