When you purchase from The Friends of WCH, $14 from each membership sold will go towards the recently launched fundraising campaign to raise $100,000 for a new Orthotics System with computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacture (CAD/CAM) which replaces some or all manual processes in the manufacture of custom-made orthoses and prostheses. Using CAD (computer aided design) negates the need for taking plaster impression moulds in most cases and makes the design process fast, clean, precise and reproducible, with changes trackable over time. The CAM (computer aided manufacture) component of the proposed system is a small milling machine that produces custom-made foot orthoses with a turn-around time of less than 1 hour rather than 2 weeks. The purchase of a scanner, foot design software and the foot orthosis milling machine is the first step toward becoming a centre of excellence for orthotics and prosthetics.
