Friends continue to fund Passion Projects
Launched in 2016, The Friends of the WCH Inc. continue to fund the ‘The Person Family Centred Care Passion Projects’ and have committed to annually fund $20,000 a further 3 years. The projects align with the Women’s and Children’s Hospital Network (WCHN) and Person and Family Centred Care (PFCC) values. In addition, the Friends provide a $500 voucher to the annual winner of the PFCC award.
A little about the 2022 Passion Project winners:
> Women's and Babies Service (WABs) Neonatal Growth and Development educational resources
This project is a direct response to consumer requests for improved educational resources to guide parents in the optimal support of their preterm baby’s development. Preterm babies admitted to the Neonatal Nursery face high risk for later developmental delay or disability. Parents are perfectly placed to buffer some of that risk, through knowledge, behaviours, and moment to moment interactions that foster their baby’s development. E-health online and printed content created from experts in infant development, provides an individualised, preterm specific, educational support for parents to better understand the care of their tiny baby.
> Youth Women's Safety and Wellbeing Division (YWSWD) collaborative partnership with consumers
In conjunction with the City of Onkaparinga council, a local artist works collaboratively with young people at every stage of the design and planning of a wall art mural. The activity is therapeutic, and the project is conducive to improving the health and wellbeing of our young people as it will create an inviting visual safe space for young people to access in their local area.
> Paediatric Medicine COVIDKids/WCH@Home refurbish their clinical space
WCH@Home is a new “hospital-in-the-home” service for children and young people in Adelaide. The service is developing and expanding in scope and geography. Care is predominantly delivered at home. However, sometimes patients and their families are required to come to hospital and receive treatments in an area which is undecorated. This project will create a friendly paediatric clinical space to provide distraction during procedures. Providing a space that is inviting and engaging will provide positive healthcare experiences for children, young people, and families.
> Medical Short Stay Ward refurbishment providing a better experience for patients
A project that provides a resource, toolbox or activity which can be provided to siblings of patients. It aims to bridge distance between siblings, by being meaningfully engaged in an activity. It demonstrates recognition of the impact that hospitalisation can place on not only siblings but parents and the family cohort.
