The Friends were extremely pleased to facilitate a recent donation from the Australian Professional Firefighters Foundation (APFF).

The APFF are very proud of the support they have provided to the hospital over the last 20 years.

One of the main focuses of the Foundation is to provide assistance to the Newland Ward which treats burns and road crash causalities and aligns with the APFF members core values, who are quite often the first responders to such incidents.

Thanks to the generosity of its members and support provided by the community $10,815 was donated to the WCH via the Friends for the purchase of the Dermamesher Cutters for use within Burns surgery. The cutters are part of a surgical skin graft tool designed for tissue expansion.

The cutters were recently handover to Phil Robinson, Executive Director Corporate Services WCHN, Jane Jennings, Advanced Divisional Director, Nursing Surgical Services WCHN, Katie and Kate WCH Theatre staff. Tom Hett, Vice President, Fiona and Susie from the Foundation welcomed the opportunity to present the cutters to Jane and her team. The theatre staff demonstrated how the instruments would be used in surgery and how the additional instruments will provide significant improvements and benefit the children and theatre service.

Thank you to all that have made this very generous donation possible.
