Volunteers Raise $425,000 for New Equipment at Women’s and Children’s Hospital
Thank You to Our Amazing Members from the Shops Auxiliary and Regional Auxiliaries Divisions! At The Friends of the Women’s and Children’s Hospital, we are constantly reminded of the extraordinary dedication shown by our members. With over 450 from across South Australia, our volunteers and our members continue to make an incredible impact through their selfless contributions.
Thanks to their tireless efforts and fundraising activities, an incredible $425,000 was raised, enabling us to purchase vital equipment to improve patient care and support our amazing medical teams.
Here’s a look at the equipment made possible through their volunteering and generosity:
Transcutaneous Gas Monitors x3 for the Sleep Laboratory – $37,500 raised.
These monitors are essential in measuring the oxygen and carbon dioxide levels in patients, especially infants, without invasive procedures. This helps monitor children in the Sleep Lab who may be at risk of breathing difficulties.
Enuresis Alarm for the Allied Health, Equipment Centre – $2,365 raised.
Enuresis alarms are crucial for children facing bedwetting issues. These devices alert both children and caregivers, assisting in the treatment of nocturnal enuresis and improving the overall quality of life for young patients.
Breast Pumps x22 for the Allied Health, Equipment Centre – $33,194 raised.
Breast pumps play a critical role in supporting mothers and newborns. These pumps help ensure that premature babies or those with feeding difficulties receive the nutrition they need, even when direct breastfeeding is not possible.
ThinkPad 16 Gen for Orthotics Scanner for Allied Health – $6,570 raised.
This specialised device aids in creating custom orthotics for patients who require support with walking or mobility. Accurate and quick orthotics scans improve patient outcomes by reducing discomfort and enhancing their quality of life.
Laedral Suction Units x3 for the Allied Health, Equipment Centre – $6,198 raised.
These portable suction devices are used to clear a patient’s airway, making them a vital tool in emergency situations. They ensure safe and effective airway management across the hospital, especially for respiratory patients.
Patient Monitoring System for the Adolescent Ward – $87,491 raised
Monitoring systems are key to keeping track of vital signs like heart rate, oxygen levels, and blood pressure. This system will ensure our adolescent patients receive constant, up-to-date monitoring for quicker response times and better care.
Shower Chairs x2 for Allied Health – $12,492 raised.
These chairs provide much-needed support for patients with limited mobility, allowing them to bathe safely and comfortably, enhancing dignity and independence during recovery or rehabilitation.
Cough Assist and Percussion Device for Allied Health – $12,858 raised.
Designed to assist patients who have difficulty clearing mucus from their lungs, this equipment is vital for improving respiratory health, especially for children with conditions such as cystic fibrosis or muscular dystrophy.
Spinal Patient Lifter for Allied Health – $15,957 raised.
This lifter helps transfer patients with spinal injuries or limited mobility, ensuring they can move safely while reducing the risk of injury to both patients and caregivers.
Each piece of equipment makes a huge difference in the lives of those at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital. The impact is widespread and profound, from supporting newborns and young children to assisting adolescents with mobility needs.
To all our members, your efforts are the heartbeat of everything we do. Whether you run the volunteer shops, organise fundraising events, or give your time in other ways, you are the reason we can provide such high-quality care to those who need it most.
On behalf of everyone at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital, thank you. Your kindness and dedication ensure that every patient receives the care and comfort they deserve.
