The Friends of WCH Passion Projects
The Passion Projects initiative was launched in September 2016 during Person and Family Centred Care Week as a direct response to consumer feedback. They provided four divisions from the Women's and Children's Health Network with funding up to $5000 to work in partnerships with consumers and carers to make positive service changes. 2016 projects included;
- Developing a story for children accessing surgical services to lessen their anxiety click to view the video
- Capturing birth stories from women to educate future parents about pregnancy click to view Birthing Stories Vox Pop or to listen to the song ‘Born With You’, a song for relaxation
- Purchasing ipads to in CAMHS
- Piloting a parent program in Berri CaFHS
The Passion Projects brought to you through the funding by the Friends WCH Inc. was so popular and successful; there will be another round for 2018. The concept is still the same to provide financial support to projects which will lead to solution-focused, quality improvement initiatives that embed the four pillars of the WCHN’s Person and Family Centred Care Charter, namely to:
- Treat consumers and their families with dignity and respect
- Communicate information clearly and openly with the consumer
- Actively involve consumers in the decision making
- Be positive and kind.
The Passion Projects initiative has been made possible through a $20,000 donation from the Friends of the WCH Inc., enabling four projects to be funded to the value of $5000 each.A key requirement of the program is that consumer representatives and the Consumer Engagement Unit are involved in the design and implementation of each Passion Project, and that the initiatives must be completed within a six-month period and evaluated by the 30 June 2018.

Visit the consumer and community engagement page on the intranet to download the 2018 application pack. Applications are open 1 November 2017 and close 22 November 2017. A panel consisting of consumer representatives will be making recommendations relating to funding on 5 December 2017. All applicants will find out about projects outcomes on 12 December 2017. All projects must start on 1 January 2018 and be (strictly) completed by 30 June 2018. Services and wards can submit more than one application, but they must be for different projects. In 2017 a new grant system was trialled in partnership with the Friends of the Women’s and Children’s Hospital Incorporated. The Grants were to provide 4 x $5000 allotments of funding for quality improvement projects within the Health Network. The Person and Family Centred Care Passion Projects initiative was supported by a framework and administered by the Community Engagement Division.
