The Friends of the Women’s and Children’s Hospital held 2026 Annual General Meeting on 30th November, welcoming an incredible turnout of more than 100 Friends Members.
We were delighted to have Professor Michael Stark, Medical Unit Head of Neonatal Services at the Women’s & Children’s Hospital, officially open the meeting. Professor Stark shared fascinating insights into the history and evolution of neonatal medicine, highlighting the significant impact that equipment funded by The Friends has made to medical staff, families and, most importantly, the tiniest of babies.
Associate Professor & Friends Patron Ross Haslam AO along with Professor Stark also had the honour of presenting our Life Memberships, recognising the outstanding dedication and contribution of our long-standing members.
The programme continued with:
Rachel Yates, Executive Director of Nursing & Midwifery and Consumer Experience, who provided an update on the hospital.
Di Smith-McCue, Director of Consumer and Community Engagement, who delivered an enthusiastic presentation on co-design initiatives and the importance of consumer involvement.
An update from the Biomedical Engineering Department on equipment purchased through Friends funding and the difference it makes across the hospital.
Presentations showcasing our Passion Projects – Person and Family Centred Care, highlighting the wonderful initiatives made possible through Friends support.
It was a fantastic day filled with inspiring stories, valuable updates and a wonderful reminder of the difference our volunteers make every day.
A huge thank you to everyone who attended and continues to support The Friends.
Together, we are making a real difference to the Women’s & Children’s Hospital and the families it cares for.
