Lock & Districts Friends raise $1,100 at their Melbourne Cup Luncheon
On a cold and damp Melbourne Cup Day, Lock and Districts Friends hosted a lunch and raised $1100. Twenty attendees enjoyed grazing platters and hot finger foods with generous sponsorship from Drakes in Pt Lincoln. Cummins Hotel were the generous sponsors of wines on arrival and during the meal, with Cummins Five Loaves bakery donating vouchers towards lucky door prize and best dressed/best headgear prizes. President Amanda Hodge had quiz questions throughout the day with chocolate prizes and shared her journey with her youngest child at the WCH.
A special delight for the day was Mrs Alana Adams and her years 4, 5 & 6 school class presenting a fashion parade with each class member dressed for the occasion and “strutting their stuff” on the catwalk. This marvelous group had also been fundraising and presented a cheque donation of $202.00 to Lock members to be included in their donation to the hospital. The students had designed saddlebags, with Melbourne Cup information which they shared and left on the walls adding the decorations.
The winner of “the cup” (from the wind up horse race) was Di Habner. Best dressed and best hat winner was Sally Zacher with Kaytlin Northcott runner up best dressed sash. Best headwear runner up was Sylvy Dolphin.
The Lock Friends took this opportunity to launch their new banner which had been received the week before the Cup. Included in the launch was Chris Norton representing the Lock Op Shop which so generously allows the Friends to have a continual small area with produce for sale at all times. Relish, Jam, Pickles, fruit & veg donated raise around $200 per year through these sales during the 2 days per week the shop is open.
A great day of fun, food, friendship, flutters and fundraising! New members are always welcome to join any Auxiliary group throughout the state.
