The Friends Acknowledge Julie Tonkin

Julie Tonkin joined the Friends in 1980 as a member of the Yorketown Auxiliary.

Julie joined the auxiliary following in her mother’s steps who was a member of the Arthurton Auxiliary for many years. Julie’s mother often said how much she enjoyed the friendships and fundraising for the hospital.

Julie has held several positions within the auxiliary including Treasurer and Secretary and at one point held both positions. Julie is still the groups Secretary (a position she has now held since 1996) and Regional 12 Chair for the Yorke Peninsula area.

Julie explains, “the friends I have made are life time friends,

I have three grandchildren that were born at the hospital and one still is a patient their occasionally. I enjoy catching up with friends meeting new people and I love fundraising. Our Auxiliary has raised $58,529 since 1957. I just love it and enjoy it immensely. It is even better with the local community getting behind you”.

Julie has been instrumental in keeping the Region operating through some difficult times. Julie continues to make the regular trips to Adelaide to attend State Council meetings. Julie is well respected within her local community and was awarded Life Membership of The Friends of WCH in 2019.

The Friends would like to recognise and thank Julie for her ongoing commitment to improving the lives of South Australian families.
